I see that the community is a lot less active about HOI3 that about the previous 2 releases of the game. Or at least that's what it seems to me, from the amount of postong and the forum sections devoted to each game.

Any special reason? People still waiting for 1.4 patch before commiting more time to HOI3?
I hope I can find some spare time to google those mods mentioned above to learn more about them.

I just got excepted onto the Chocolate Mod team, heres a very fast write up on it.

CHOCOLATE


Welcome to the first official posting for my mod "CHOCOLATE"

this mod is a expanded version of the vanillia game, NOT a historical accuracy or nation focused mod, although when completed you should be able to move event along historical line (with ease) if you choose or head in a ahistorical line of your choosing. as far as im conserned "Didays" is already addressing these things.

NOTE : THIS ISN'T A PLAYABLE MOD YET
i have been working on this for a while now lots of trial and error of what can be modded and what not and waiting for patches to see what has been address and so on.

so what will chocolate have in it.

- battalion based divisions (greater flexablity in size and style)
- expanded air units -and revised
- expanded naval units - and revised
- revised and expanded tech tree
- a four faction diplomacy (debat this all u want but this solves a lot of problems)
- two new ministers positions Commerce/Finances and Culture/Education
- 4 new laws/ national policies
: industrial focus(which direction u wish to focus your national industry)
: social engineering(diffrent govs engineered their societies in diffrent direction)
:woman policy ( this is a major one, not allowing women into industry or even combat)
:general staff (this is the direction the military will operate,)

and alot more.....

all events and decisions need to be overhauled and expanded.
map work
AI improvement



this project is getting a lil big for just one person and i need and want help.

this is what i call phase one
which is jsut getting the nuts and bolts working right,
the add/modify the AI improvement to fit
then all the nations improvement mods
maps fixes and changes
...lots of work.

Might seem a naive question, but I played long time ago HOI 1, skipped completely HOI 2 and just landed into HOI 3, but... is there any good website or document explaining the delicacies of mooding HOI3? I see that editing the .txt files is no big deal, but I am lost with LUA and I am amazed at the changes that people can do in the interface, the map is quite complex...Some googling didn't produce anything useful (or maybe I am getting too old to get the most of the net ?)

Its not all that easy, but time consuming. Its all in the GFX folder and all you have to do is alter the LUA info, and then have to go alter the GFX files to suit.

It needs a lot of Patience.

There will be one in time i am sure, but a lot of people dont want to give away their secrets... its kind of a game nerd thing i guess.

Step one is to go get yourself Notepad ++, its free.. open LUA files with it.. start tinkering, way i learned it all, when you get into the graphics stuff, go get yourself a copy of Photoshop and get the .dds plugin.. your good to go.

I was so silly I installed the mod without making a copy of all the vanilla files. I cold have learnt a lot comparing the vanilla and the modded files. Maybe when I finish the game I'll have another go, but since our first son is expected by mid february, I will not be focusing seriously on the game at least during the following months
At least I am lucky, my wife is a graphic designer so I have a helping hand with photoshop, filters and such.

BTW, in my game I have made Finland a puppet state, but my plan to invade Germany while Adolf was busy with France failed; it was not wise to start the war because Sweden and Norway have been conquered by nazi troops, and I couldn't cover the north front without debilitating my forces in the main theatre. I could see someting like 20+ divisions right in my (new) scandinavian frontier, versus my 6 weak divisions stationed around Murmansk and some other police troops scattered from there to Leningrad. As soon as I made Finland a puppet, the german moved away several of those menacind divisions, but I need more build up to properly cover the front. The finnish divissions that are created when the country is made a puppet don't seem strong enough to hold any serious attack.

My plan failed; it doesn't matter that Romania is not even aligned with the axis, and that I don't claim Bessarabia to keep our relations in good terms; when Germany declares war on USSR, there goes Romania straight into the fight (not that they really give a good fight, but some badly needed divisions are absorbed in the fight and unable to go against the germans).
Not worth spending so much time and effort in diplomatic influence... my next attempt will be attacking Romania as soon as possible and making it a puppet. at least I will not have to deal with its army at the same time that I must fight the Germans.
Interestingly, when war starts and Findland is a puppet, Germay doesn't attack in the far north (Murmansk) although Finland is weak; but I can attack Norway through Findland, and destroy a couple german divisions.
Also, there was no soviet-japanese clash (Kalkhin Gol incident, sorry of the spelling is wrong).

I missed the forum for one week and there are more posts than I can swallow !
Finally I got my strategy working: I kept the soviet constanly at war with minors (first the Batic states, the Romania, after that Hugary and finally Finland) so I enjoyed lower consumer goods demand and I kept my army at full force.
I attacjed Germany in spring '40 while Hitler was busy with France; interestingly, the Bohemian Corporal had the soviet frontier covered with armoured and motorized divisions !!! They were not a match for the russian infantry and I could push the back into Poland... until France fell and the counterattack stopped me at the Vistula River.
Also I am facing strong armoured forces in Norway and Sweden! Either the game gives too much power to the Wehrmacht (not historical so many vehicled divisions so early) or the AI has chosen to focus on land combat, forgetting about planes and ships... Still, I think it is a great start for the soviets, at least the war is not fought in the motherland but in the enemy's own soil.

You will have best game experience if you us it with land bridges fix for 1.4

Mod is only tested with English version of game. If you have different language change it to English in settings.txt if not you can notice some random crashes. Works perfect on Win xp, vista 32 and 64, seven 32 and 64

Let's see if it goes better that 1.3 (which already lookd great, shame I had no chance to play it farther that 1937).

Hi all.

Koniu, thanks for the update.

I keep playing with my faulty 1.3 modded... Just saving frequently allows the game advance.
SOmething strange happened in my game. Still in 1937, Spain has disappeared ! I mean, the land and provinces are there, but the owner of the land is neither Republican or Nationalist Spain, just a rebel land (red and black flag) that doesn't show on Diplomacy screen...
Is this bug or a very strange event ??? I bet it is a bug...

Shame I have only 2 transport ships, I wish I could invade this rogue country !!!!
